Sir Jonathan Faull will host ‘The Digital Euro and the Future of Money’ on Monday, April 26th 2021.
Dr Juergen Schaaf, Advisor to the Senior Management on Market Infrastructure and Payments at the European Central Bank (ECB), will be joining us a guest speaker.
Like many central banks, the ECB is currently considering the need for a digital euro and is expected to launch this project before the summer. Its recent public consultation on this issue attracted over 8000 responses. The topic raises a host of different issues beyond monetary policy, including the future of cash, implications for security, e-commerce and payments and privacy and consumer protection concerns.

Sir Jonathan Faull joined Brunswick after a distinguished career at the European Commission working at the highest level on a wide range of policies including competition, justice and home affairs, transport and financial services. As the Commission’s most senior British official his recent roles included Director-General Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, as well as Director-General of the Task Force for strategic issues related to the UK Referendum.
